What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a powerful, non-invasive, medication free, intervention that guides the brain to healthy, optimal functioning. Neurofeedback utilizes real-time EEG readings and reinforcement to help the brain learn self-regulation which addresses symptoms at the source to effect change.

How does Neurofeedback work?

  • Customized Neurofeedback training starts with a biopsychosocial assessment and a baseline brain map to determine the best course of action for the individual. The brain map provides identification of patterns, excesses or deficiencies that are likely contributing factors to the physical and emotional symptoms a person is dealing with. These patterns and personalized goals guide the training.

  •  Training starts by placing sensors on the scalp using conductive paste. The minute electrical brainwaves collected by the sensors, travel to the amplifier and into the computer program providing values and graphics that the therapist uses to direct the training. 

  • Brainwaves are monitored while the client engages in an activity. When the client’s brainwaves are within the set targets, the client receives auditory and visual rewards. The natural process of neuroplasticity gradually changes the brain improving regulation and reducing symptoms.

Is Neurofeedback safe?

Neurofeedback is FDA approved safe and effective backed by over 50 years of research. Current research can be found at both the International Society of Neurofeedback Research (ISNR) and the Association of Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB).
